DIY Dot Bobby Pins

Hey everyone! I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately. I've been busy with school and these posts take quite a while to write. I didn't do any Halloween DIYs because to be honest, I'm not really into Halloween. I've never been, and I don't expect I will be. BUT, the holidays are my favourite time of the year so expect a lot more DIYs! I'm going to try to get back on schedule of 1 post per week, but I'm not going to promise anything yet.
But anyways, enough about that. Today I'm going to be showing you how to make dotted bobby pins to make your hair a little more interesting!

What you'll need:

-bobby pins

-buttons

-liquid glue

-fabric

-fabric scissors

Information about the supplies:

Bobby pins: You can find these in large quantities at the drug store.

Fabric: You can search for a fabric store in your area and get the design of your choice. I had picked up this fabric a few weeks ago and thought it was gorgeous! It was pretty expensive though- about $13 per metre (ouch!) 

Buttons: You can find these at any craft or fabric store. You probably have some lying around your house anyways!

Glue: I am using liquid glue. Super glue or stronger glue would work better because I found this glue was a little weak and that the button felt like it was going to break off.

Fabric scissors: Any fabric store will sell loads of these! If you have fairly sharp scissors, that would work well too.

Instructions:

1. Cut out a square piece of fabric, enough to cover your button (it really depends on how big your button is). If you're unsure, cut more than you think you need. Too much is better than too less!

2. Cover the top of your button with the glue

3. Place the fabric on top of the button, having the button approximately in the middle of the fabric.

4. Place a dot of glue on the back of your button.

5. Fold the excess fabric onto the glue dot and hold it in place for a few seconds.

6. Do the same thing again, but placing the glue dot on the fabric this time. Fold the excess fabric in.

7. Continue doing this until all of the excess fabric is folded in like so.

8. To let the glue set and dry, place it under a heavy dictionary or textbook for about an hour or two to make sure that the excess fabric on the back is securely pressed down.

9. After it's dried, place a glue dot on your bobby pin.

10. Place your bobby pin onto the button, where the glue dot is. Feel free to add more glue to make it extra secure (make sure you don't glue the bobby pin together!!).

11. Wait for about 2 hours or until the glue is dry. To tell if the glue is dry, it will be clear instead of a white colour.

You're all done! Stick this in your hair for some extra decoration. 

 This is quick, easy and simple DIY that you can make with some simple supplies you probably already have in your house!

DIY: Back to School Binders

So today I'm doing another back to school DIY which involves binders! Since not all of you have notebooks or use notebooks for school, I'm gonna show you a really quick and easy way to spruce up your binders! To decorate one binder took me literally 5 minutes. So if you have all of the right supplies it really won't take you long at all! Okay, let's get started! :)

What you'll need:
-a binder
-stock paper
-ruler
-pencil
scissors

Information about the supplies:

Binder: I got this binder at Staples ($6.99) and I really like the bright colours of it. You especially want to get a binder where it has a clear covering on the front where you can slip in papers, or etc. because that is a VERY important part in this DIY!
Stock Paper: You can just pick this up at Michael's. They're really inexpensive ($0.99) and super cute and versatile! For this DIY I would recommend getting some that sort of matches the colour of your binder. As you can see, the stock paper that I purchased has blue butterflies which goes with my blue binder!


Ruler: I just got this from school, but you can easily find these at any office supply store or your local dollar store!

Scissors: I picked these up at Staples but you can get them at any office supply store!

Pencil: I don't think I need much explaining for this one, but I got this at Staples in a huge package!








Instructions:

1. In your binder should be a slip of paper in the front, clear pocket. Place it on your stock paper to make sure it fits!

2. Then, flip over the stock paper, once you've maken sure that the stock paper is big enough for the slip of paper.

3. Line up the slip of paper with the back of the stock paper. Make sure it's lined up almost perfectly! And if your stock paper has something that you don't want to be sideways (like my butterflies, or maybe dogs..?) make sure that you're cutting it the right side up!

4. Once it's lined up, take your ruler and place the edge of the ruler with the edge of your piece of paper, so you can easily trace the side with a pencil!

5. It should now look something like this picture to the right!

6. Now, cut on the lines you have traced, with your scissors! Try to be as precise as possible!

7. You should have a piece of stock paper the exact same size as the slip of paper that came with the binder! Slip the stock paper into the front, clear pocket!

8. You can also do the same thing with the side of your binder (though it depends what type of binder you have, since some binders don't have a side window). There will be another slip of paper in the side.

9. Just take that out and measure the stock paper again (though you can measure it a little smaller than it actually is so it can fit easily into the little window on the side of the binder!

10. Measure and cut the piece of paper out. Slip it into the little window and you're done!

So this is the final product! Transfer your binders from boring to amazing!



I also did this with my 2 other binders and really liked how they turned out! You're ready for school now! :)

DIY: Splatter Picture Frames

Hey everyone! My name is Megan and today I'm posting my first DIY post on this blog and I'm really excited to continually share ideas with you! So first of all, I should let you know that I absolutely LOVE making crafts and decorating, so I think this blog will be perfect for me! I think I'll be pushing out posts every week, but that could always change. I hope you enjoy and let's get started :)


What you'll need:
-Blank picture frame
-White acrylic paint
-Acrylic paint in 2-4 different colours
-Paint brush
-Old Tarp, or any surface that you wouldn't mind getting dirty with paint

Information about the supplies:
Blank picture frame: I bought this at Michael's. It's really affordable ($1.50) and it's something that you can have a lot of fun decorating!




Acrylic paint: I use the brand Americana and I also purchased this at Michael's ($1.99) and I especially love acrylic paint because it dries pretty quick, but if you feel nervous about it staining or getting everywhere, you can always use washable paint instead.


Paint brush: This paint brush is actually really old, (and I should probably buy new ones) but I know that Michael's sells LOTS and lots of paint brushes if you ever need to buy some!

Instructions:
1. Paint the whole picture frame with white paint. I used Americana's "Warm White".

2. Get a lot of paint on your paint brush of one colour. I'm using Americana's "Vivid Violet" in the picture on the left, but you can use basically any colour you would like!

 3. Splatter it onto the white picture frame (though make sure you have a surface under your frame that you don't mind getting dirty, like a tarp, or old table) You can splatter the frame by flicking the paintbrush towards the frame and the paint should splatter easily if you have a lot of paint on your brush! I also did the same thing with Americana's "Bubblegum Pink".

4. Then let it dry for a couple hours (since there will probably be big blobs of paint that will take a while to dry). When none of the paint is shiny, or doesn't look wet, you can slip your picture into the frame!



And that's it! You're done! I had so much fun making this and it doesn't take long at all! This would be a perfect gift for your Mom, Dad, sibling or friend. Just slip in a memorable picture and you're done! Super inexpensive and easy :) I used pink and purple paint, but you can use any and as many colours you'd like!
